SkyEye on Fox3: A GCI Controller Who Never Logs Off
Every squadron knows the difference a controller makes. With one, you push in with a picture in your head, you know what is out there, and someone tells you when the merge is coming. Without one, four aircraft wander around a map hoping their own radar finds something before somebody finds them.
The problem is that being the controller is a job. It means one of your best pilots sits out the sortie to run a scope, and on a public server at ten at night, that person simply does not exist.
SkyEye fills the seat. It is an AI GCI controller that lives on your server, listens on SRS, and answers you in a real voice.
You Talk, It Answers
This is not a text command in chat. You key the mic on the GCI frequency and speak, the same way you would to a human controller, and you get a spoken reply.
The calls you can make:
- PICTURE for the tactical situation
- BOGEY DOPE for bearing and range to the nearest threat
- DECLARE to get a contact identified
- SNAPLOCK when you need the nearest target called out fast
- SPIKED when you are getting a radar warning and want to know what is looking at you
- ALPHA CHECK to confirm your position
- VECTOR for a heading and altitude to fly
It Also Talks First
A controller who only answers questions is half a controller. SkyEye makes unprompted calls too, which is the part that actually changes how a fight feels:
- THREAT when something hostile is closing on you
- MERGED when you and a contact come together
- FADED when it loses a contact it was watching
That last one matters more than it sounds. Knowing a bandit just went cold and unseen is exactly the information that keeps a flight from flying into a trap.
It Is Reading Your Actual Mission
Worth being clear about this, because "AI" gets attached to a lot of things that are just a script. SkyEye is not guessing or improvising. It reads a live telemetry feed from your running mission, builds track files from real aircraft positions, and calls what is genuinely there. When it gives you a bearing, that bearing is correct.
What Fox3 Does
SkyEye is genuinely fiddly to run. It needs live telemetry from DCS and an SRS server, it has to be started in the right order or it exits immediately, it runs as a Windows service that has to survive every reboot and every DCS update, and it does not reload its own configuration when you change it.
We handle all of that. Fox3 installs it, wires it to your SRS and your telemetry feed, sets it to come back on its own after a restart, tunes the speech recognition model to your server, and puts it on the radio frequency you want. You get a controller on frequency, not a project.
What You Need
- Squadron Tier or above. SkyEye depends on SRS and Tacview telemetry, and those start at Squadron Tier. Co Op and Value do not include them.
- An OpenAI API key. We run SkyEye with cloud speech recognition, so your server spends its processor flying the mission instead of transcribing radio calls. The key is yours and billed to you by OpenAI, and the usage is small.
- Your pilots on SRS, tuned to the GCI frequency.
Pricing
SkyEye GCI is $5.99 per month, $16.99 per quarter, or $67.99 per year. You can add it from your account page at fox3servers.com, or open a ticket and we will get it running for you.
The Bottom Line
Nobody joins a flight sim to sit and run a radar scope for other people. Now nobody has to, and your flight still gets the picture.
You fly. We handle the rest.
