Send Us the Photo. We Build the Livery.

Send Us the Photo. We Build the Livery.

You know the feeling. You are flipping through an airshow gallery, or cracking open a squadron history book, or scrolling through footage from a museum somewhere, and you spot a paint scheme that stops you cold. That particular shade of grey over a desert tan. The shark mouth on a Mustang. The anniversary markings on a Viper you have never seen on any skin pack.

You think: I wish I could fly that in DCS.

Now you just send us the picture.

What Is "Custom From Your Photo"?

Skin In The GameFX is the Fox3 Servers custom livery service, and SkyCraft is the builder where you put your paint together. Until now, every livery started from one of our base patterns. You picked a foundation, personalized it, and flew it.

Today we are opening a new door. Custom from your photo lets you submit a photo or screenshot of any paint scheme you love, and we build the livery template directly from it. A real squadron jet at an airshow. A warbird in a museum hangar. A scheme you found in a print. A screenshot from another sim. Whatever reference you have, that is where your livery starts. You take it from there in your own design studio, dial it in, and pick the version you want to fly.

This is not a filter or a preset. We build the template from your reference, hand it to you, and you steer it the rest of the way.

How It Works

  1. Open the builder and choose your aircraft. Head to skycraft.fox3cloud.com and pick the aircraft you want to paint. Custom from your photo is available today on four aircraft: the F-16C Viper, the F/A-18C Hornet (Lot 20), the P-51D Mustang, and the P-47D Thunderbolt. On the customize page, select the "Custom from your photo" card, marked NEW, instead of a base pattern.

  2. Upload your reference photos. You can send between one and five images in JPG, PNG, or WebP format, up to 10 MB each. Sharp, high resolution photos give us the most to work with. Add an optional note if there is anything the photos do not show, a specific colour code, markings on the underside, something you want us to match as closely as possible.

  3. Pay once, up front. The price is $10.99 per custom livery. Because this is made specifically for you from the moment you submit, it is non refundable.

  4. Your first design arrives in minutes. We email you a private link to your personal design studio. No waiting around, no ticket system.

  5. Refine it in the studio. Your first design is a starting point, not a final answer. In the studio you see your livery as a flat paint sheet with its colour swatches. Not quite right? Ask for another design. You can choose a different base pattern, request a plain single colour finish (available on the F-16C, F/A-18C, and P-51D), or let us choose the direction. You can set between one and six colours and add a short note each time. You have up to 10 designs per order, and any design that fails to build does not count against that total.

  6. Mark your favourite final. Pick the version you want to fly and mark it final. We build it right away and send you the usual download email, with a drop in livery folder ready for DCS. After delivery we send a quick one question rating survey.

Your pilot name, nose art, and tail art go on the finished livery exactly the way they always have.

The Design Studio: The Part That Makes It Yours

The studio is where this feature earns its name. Submitting the photo gets us started. The studio is where you take ownership.

Each design comes back to you as a flat paint sheet, the kind a real painter would tape to the wall. You see the full layout, the colour blocks, the panel breaks. The colour swatches are right there beside it so you can read exactly what shades went in.

If the first pass is close but not quite there, write a note and ask for another pass. Shift a colour. Tighten the contrast. Try a cleaner, single colour base if the scheme reads better that way. You can ask for up to 10 designs, and each one follows the pattern, colours and note you gave us. Think of it as a conversation about paint.

When you find the version that feels right, mark it final. That is the one we build.

Getting the Best Result From Your Photos

The quality of your reference directly shapes what we can produce. A few things that help:

  • Sharp, high resolution images. Small, blurry, or heavily compressed screenshots lose the details we need most, panel lines, colour accuracy, marking placement.
  • The aircraft filling most of the frame, in good light.
  • Both sides of the aircraft, plus the top or underside if the scheme differs there. If you only have one angle, tell us in your note what the rest of the aircraft looks like, and we will match it as closely as we can.

What to Expect: Honest, Up Front

This feature produces a genuinely close match to your reference. It does not produce a pixel perfect copy, and we want to be straightforward about that before you order.

It is a close match, not a clone. Lighting in photographs, the fonts used on real aircraft, and the way DCS renders a 3D model all differ from what a camera captures. The result will feel like your reference scheme. It will not be mathematically identical.

Preview in DCS, not just on the sheet. Studio previews are flat paint sheets, not in game renders. Colours on a recoloured design can also come out a little softer than the colours you picked. Use the swatches beside each sheet to check, and ask for another design if a colour is off.

Real world and historical markings are welcome. Fly your favourite squadron's scheme, a national marking, a historically accurate warbird finish. We do not reproduce other community artists' skins, and we do not apply brand or airline logos. We build the closest version we can without those elements.

Privacy is your call. If you tick "Keep my design private" during your order, nobody else can ever order it. If you leave it open, we may publish the finished design as a template that other pilots can customize. Either way, it is your choice.

The design you pick is final. Once you mark it, that is the one we build and deliver.

Which Aircraft and What It Costs

Custom from your photo is live today on:

  • F-16C Viper
  • F/A-18C Hornet (Lot 20)
  • P-51D Mustang
  • P-47D Thunderbolt

The price is $10.99 per livery, paid once at checkout. That covers the full process: template build, up to 10 design iterations in your studio, and the final livery download.

If you have questions before ordering, the livery help page covers everything, or you can reach us through the contact page. If you want to browse what finished liveries look like, the liveries page is a good place to start.

Start With the Photo You Already Have

There is a paint scheme out there that you have wanted to fly for a long time. You probably know exactly which one it is.

Open SkyCraft, choose your aircraft, pick Custom from your photo, and upload what you have. We take it from there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a screenshot from DCS or another simulator as my reference photo?
Yes. Screenshots from DCS or another sim work as reference, as long as they are sharp. The sharper and more detailed the image, the better the template we can build from it. If a single screenshot does not show the full scheme, upload additional angles and add a note explaining what the missing areas look like.

What if none of my 10 designs look right?
Use your note field each time to steer us. Tell us what is working and what is not, be specific about colours, pattern edges, or marking placement. If you are genuinely stuck, reach out through the contact page and we will see what we can do.

Will other pilots be able to use my livery if I do not mark it private?
If you leave the privacy option unticked, Fox3 Servers may publish the finished design as a template that other pilots can customize and order their own version of. If you want your design kept exclusively yours, tick "Keep my design private" before you submit.

Does the $10.99 price cover the full design process, or just the upload?
It covers everything. One payment gets you the template build, the full design studio with up to 10 iteration passes, and the final livery download. There are no additional charges during the process.

My aircraft is not on the list. Will more be added?
Right now Custom from your photo is available on the F-16C Viper, F/A-18C Hornet (Lot 20), P-51D Mustang, and P-47D Thunderbolt. Check the SkyCraft builder for the current list.

Can my whole virtual squadron order the same scheme?
One pilot orders the custom scheme. If you leave it public, we may publish the finished design as a template, and the rest of your squadron can then order it from the builder with their own pilot name and nose art. Mention your squadron in the note so we know what you are planning.

You fly. We handle the rest.
